so I'm kind of a budding cartoonist, it's the goal I've been working towards since I was maybe ten years old.
I've studied fine art for about six years, i gave that up at around 16 when i kind of got bored of it. being kind of too distracted by friends and girls and all those sorts of things.
I really like Tomine's work, but I don't know wether or not tomine's work is so deeply rooted in my psyche that I draw like him subconsciously or wether I draw like him out of coincidence, cause i recently discovered we both use brush for figures and pigment liners for backgrounds, and that kind of weirded me out. or maybe i dont even draw like him at all and i'm just seeing things!
anyway i could go on and on, but ultimately i figure you guys. you. the tomine fans. could be the judge, here's a page out of my sketchbook
I hope that link works, i'm such an internet illerate. i had enough trouble uploading that as it is.
since we haven't had many posts thus far, how about everyone introduce yourselves? how did you all get into adrian's work? meetings? stories?
let's hear it.
"..but I'm afraid you'd never recover."
What do you think the implications of this line are in Optic Nerve #10? When breaking up with him, the girl that Ben hooks up with says something to the effect of, "I'd tell you the real reason, but I'm afraid you'd never recover."
What does she mean by that? What's the implication here - that he's not "man enough" for her, or something more sinister? Is it meant to be ambiguous?
welcome to the adrian tomine community! i'm your moderator and will be maintaining this community for you all. i posted the rules on the info
page. if you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org
there aren't very many members as of yet, but please feel free to advertise and invite friends. i'm hoping we can all have a forum to discuss his artwork, storylines, and all that is adrian tomine.
i'm still trying to get the layout together, albeit with some difficulty. if any of you are good with livejournal layouts and are interested in assisting in the maintenance and moderation of this community, please let me know at the e-mail address i listed above.
so i guess i should ask. how many of you were able to attend the signing at giant robot this past weekend? it didn't seem as crowded as i'd have expected, and those optic nerve 9 and 10 posters were a nice surprise. also, what do you all think of the 9 and 10 storyarc so far? expectations? disappointments?
